History of the Paris Education
Foundation |
|
The Paris Education Foundation was formed in response to the desire of the Paris Independent School District Board of Trustees to upgrade the scholarships offered to Paris High School graduates. At the September 1988 Board of Trustees meeting, a committee made up of board members and school staff was appointed to evaluate the current scholarship program and determine methods to increase the overall program. At the October meeting, community leaders were added to that committee. During that fall, several Board members learned of the formation of a public school foundation at the Lake Travis School District while at a meeting in Austin. At the February 1989 Board of Trustees meeting, the committee was authorized to pursue the formation of a non-profit foundation.
On April 10, 1989, the first organization meeting was held and the Paris ISD Superintendent presented the purpose, goals and objectives of the foundation. The Articles of Incorporation were developed by the school attorney, filed with the Texas Secretary of State and approved. The Paris Education Foundation had its first official meeting on July 13,1989.
During its first year of operation, the Foundation established the annual “I Love Paris” fund raising event and the first endowed scholarship was created. In 1992, the J. T. Davis Golf Tournament was started also providing funds for scholarships.
Each year, scholarships are given for dual credit courses, post-high school studies and teacher enrichment.
